Verba

An iPhone dictionary and verb conjugator that works with zero connectivity, for the small number of us living between English, Spanish, and Galician.

The whole point

Works offline. Always.

Everything ships inside the app: lookup, conjugation tables, and reference guides all work in airplane mode, on the bus, or in a village with no signal.

Two languages, side by side

Each language on its own terms.

If you know Spanish, Galician comes fast: the vocabulary overlaps, the grammar rhymes. But it is a language of its own, and Verba shows where the two part ways. Every entry carries gender marks, feminine forms, IPA and examples in all three languages, and links straight out to the RAG, the RAE and Wiktionary.

Real conjugation

Full verb tables, checked against the real rules.

Regular verbs come straight from the conjugation engine. Irregular ones are checked by hand against RAE and RAG, with every irregular form highlighted so you can see exactly where a verb breaks the pattern. And the tables go well past the present tense:

  • Indicative: present, preterite, imperfect, future, and conditional
  • Subjunctive: present and past
  • Imperative
  • Gerund and participle
  • Reflexive verbs, pronouns and accent shifts included
  • Object pronouns, with the fused Galician forms (mo, cho, llo) built for you

On the roadmap: verbal periphrases, pronunciation audio, and more. See what's next →

Typed practice

Writing a form out is a stricter test than turning a card over.

Flashcards let you grade yourself, and it is easy to be generous. Typed practice checks the form instead. The answer arrives under what you wrote, with the letters that differ underlined.

  • One more attempt on a miss, with the rule that builds the form
  • The letters that differ from the real form, underlined
  • Accents forgiven, and corrected anyway
  • Only a first-time answer counts as known
